The experience of time is the foundation of the experience of being human.
The mechanical clock was the soul of the Industrial Age, but in the digital age, clocks are increasingly for robots. We, humans, are entering into a very different relationship with time, one based on its interplay with information flows.
The result is profound: reality is becoming programmable.
Biography
Seattle-based Venkatesh Rao is renowned strategic thinker whose recent clients have included Tesla and Marc Andreessen. He is the founder of the Ribbonfarm blog, the Breaking Smart tech analysis site and the author of ‘Tempo’, a book on decision-making.
He holds a PhD in Aerospace Engineering (2003) from the University of Michigan. Between 2004 and 2006, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell University, working on command and control systems. From 2006 to 2011 he was a senior researcher at the Xerox Research Center, Webster (now part of PARC).
