Biography

Yang Dan is a Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology and an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of California, Berkeley. Yang’s research passion is about understanding sleep. What is the purpose of sleep? How do our brains control sleep? And further, how could we control our brains for improved sleep?

Yang was a physics major at Beijing University, received her PhD training in Biological Sciences at Columbia University, and did her postdoctoral research on information coding in the visual system at Rockefeller University and Harvard Medical school.
