Wil Cheung has been fascinated by the night sky since his earliest memories as a young boy. Today, Wil has observed more than 385 aurora displays. His broadcast channel, Wil’s Aurora Alerts, delivers real-time predictions to more than 60,000 subscribers, while over 255,000 followers on his Facebook page, Wil Photography, look to his imagery and guidance to witness the lights for themselves, generating more than 100 million views per year. His forecasts are trusted by travellers, scientists, and skywatchers alike.
Wil is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, an ambassador for Aurorasaurus, and a delegate of the DarkSky International. He advocates for the preservation of natural darkness, not only to protect wildlife and ecosystems, but also to preserve one of the few experiences that still silences us: looking up and feeling small, connected, and alive.
Wil’s work has received worldwide media attention from outlets including Forbes, BBC News, ITV News, LADbible, and Gogglebox on Channel 4. He has also hosted sold-out events at leading venues such as the National Space Centre and Sherwood Observatory, and most recently led a privately chartered cruise of more than 1,000 guests on an aurora-chasing expedition to Norway.
