Prof Michael Wooldridge is one of the world’s leading AI researchers and one of the founders of the field of multi-agent systems, the science of building AI that can act autonomously and collaborate with other AI systems. He is the Ashall Professor of the Foundations of AI at Oxford University.
With over 35 years in AI research and more than 450 scientific articles, Michael is a pioneer in helping the public and policymakers understand what AI can and cannot do. Among his many contributions, has given evidence to multiple government committees, including the House of Lords Select Committee on AI.
Additionally, he is the first computer scientist to receive the Royal Society’s Michael Faraday Prize, the UK’s top award for communicating science and delivered the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures in 2023.
Michael’s books on AI have been translated into eight languages. His latest book is titled Life Lessons from Game Theory and will help the reader understand game theory as applied in real life and its role in enabling AI collaboration. It is published by Headline Books and will be released on 21 May 2026.
